Stephen Dee Edwards graduated from Illinois State University with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1980. He married his wife Pat and they moved to Penland School in North Carolina to be in their Artist in Residence Program. They then moved to Green Mountain, North Carolina in 1982 where he built his first private glass studio. Stephen and Pat have 2 adult children, Heidi and Zac. In 1988 Stephen began teaching at Alfred University where he co-founded The National Casting Center. He taught at Alfred for 22 years and built one of the largest educational hot glass programs in the world. He traveled the globe teaching workshops, attending conferences and symposiums on glass art. Stephen retired from teaching in 2010 to work full time in his studio in Alfred Station, New York. Four years after retiring from full time teaching he and Pat moved to the Ojai Valley in Southern California. He now works in his home studio in Oak View, California. Stephen has received two National Endowment for the Arts Grants. His work can be found in over 30 public collections world wide including the National Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian Institution,Washington DC, the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Japan, the Frankfurt Museum of Art, Germany and the Corning Museum of Glass, New York. He has a long exhibition record in galleries internationally. Stephen received two National Endowment for the Arts Grants. He was also President of the Glass Art Society.
